BPS LOGO ~ The Eastern White Pine: Blanchard held the record for the biggest Eastern White Pine until it blew over in a storm. The BPS members voted to use it as our logo, and we even have a poem dedicated to this memorable tree.

The Giant White Pine

Many years ago there grew a white pine at the base of a mountain on Punch Bowl Brook in Blanchard, Maine.
There it continued to grow through wind, sleet and rain.
The giant pine became a monumental landmark for many to view.
For hundreds of years it just grew and grew.
Then one day on November 9th, 1994
On a very windy day the giant white pine stood no more.
There it lies by the very brook
Where we all came to see and look.
Although it lies through the wind, sleet and rain,
It will always be remembered as the biggest white pine in Maine.
